My Philosophy

I chose physical therapy as my profession because I believe strongly in the body's ability to heal and in the role of movement and exercise to facilitate health throughout our lives. I treat patients as whole people and while my focus is on physical function, I believe in supporting people in mind, body, and spirit.

I believe effective physical therapy involves not only helping calm pain and facilitate healing of the injured tissue but also identifying the root cause of the injury by considering the full body and the interdependence of the kinetic chain. My approach is to first facilitate healing and then correct underlying movement dysfunctions to allow patients to return to what they love to do even better than before.

Above all, I believe in connecting and building relationships with patients. Healing happens when we feel respected, heard and understood, and I strive to provide that for everyone I have the privilege of treating.

My Background

I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Coe with my B.A. in Psychology. After graduation I moved to Denver, Colorado where I earned my Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree at Regis University in 2016. I practiced in Denver for six years and in Phoenix for four years after that working primarily with patients with orthopedic conditions. After several years away I was ready to make the move back to Iowa to be closer to friends and family, and to work for the community that gave me so much.

When I'm not in the clinic, I love spending time with my husband, Mike, and our three golden retrievers, Layla, Junie, and Scout. We enjoy traveling together, skiing, hiking and trying new local restaurants. I'm also an avid reader and am always searching for my next read at local bookstores.
